Thing 19 – Video and Audio Tools.  For recording, listening, and watching.

Purpose: To learn about the range of web tools that can be used for free to create audio and vides.

Just as anyone can post text on the web, the same is true with audio and video.  No longer is the web just a place for text heavy material.  Learn more about what is available.

Discovery Activity

First, learn about these online radio/audio stations (make sure the sound is turned on, on your computer).

Pandora - http://www.pandora.com/

AccuRadio - http://www.accuradio.com/

NPR Radio - http://www.npr.org/music/

Great Speeches:  http://www.americanrhetoric.com/top100speechesall.html

Now, take a look at these tools that allow you to create your own audio:

UStream: http://www.ustream.tv/

Voice Thread: http://voicethread.com/#home

Audacity (need to download to your computer):  http://audacity.sourceforge.net/

Previously, you learned about online video collections.  In addition, there are places that allow you to create your own videos.

Check these out:

Animoto: http://animoto.com/

150+ Video Tools: http://mashable.com/2007/06/27/video-toolbox/

Slideshows: http://bighugelabs.com/slideshow.php

Slideshare (tons of PowerPoints people have shared): http://www.slideshare.net/

Now, use one of the above tools to create your own show.

Either find pictures online from Flickr or some pictures you have taken and either create a slide show or video with music and narration.

Blog Post: “Thing 19, Podcasts”:

Which audio or video tool did you find most useful?  Describe the online tool you used to create your picture slide show or video and what you created.

Bonus

Post your presentation on your blog.

Rob, where it says Blog Post: "Thing 19, Podcasts," there's a typo. It should be about video and audio tools. Just doing a bit of proofreading!
